This is also a wildlife management area where species of waterfowl and American Bald eagle can be found. The trail head starts at the left after you emerge out of the visitors’ center. Just follow the cement pathway leading to the museum.

From this point, take the Pigeonhouse Lake Trail by following the white trail blazes and then circling the center. Move forward by climbing to three separate lakes where you will usually see waterfowls looking for food. Several bird species are seen here such as hawks, great blue herons, ibis, snowy egrets, geese, and also ducks. The trail blazes are easy to follow along a safe-zone path where you may pass by a shooting range at the northern end. From the third lake, swerve south as you follow the lakeshore to an intersection at the southern part of the lake.

Take a right turn and emerge out on the viewing dock where you can have another bird-watching moment. Just remember to keep silent in this area so as not to disturb the birds away. Loop back to the trail intersection and then take a right where the red blazes of the Clubhouse Trail are. Go down to an old-growth forest where you will find old hunter stands on some of the trees. Move past this and find the bridge and then turn left until the path quickly swerves to the right.

To the right, just follow the valley where the Clubhouse Lake is and then enter an area on the left of the pavilion where restrooms are. Continue moving right as you climb a set of stairs and move past a small center. Pace forward and then cross the dam at the Clubhouse Lake reaching another viewing dock. Across the dam, you will notice a yellow-blazed marker which signifies Murder Creek Trail. This offers you a series of switchbacks until you reach a lakeshore.

From the river, take a right turn passing a waterfall at Murder Creek. Absorb the beauty of this magnificent view and then continue the trail towards another climb on the left. Come out of the blue-blazed trail of granite outcrops, swerve left until you cross a wooden bridge over Murder Creek Trail. The path back to the trail head is made granite outcrop leading to a bridge and then continue straight ahead reaching the starting point.
